The bear ate my book!

This is why my job is never dull. Mr. Tom Clynes is a contributing editor to National Geographic’s Adventure Magazine and lives in Brookline, VT. He returned his book today with the "excuse" that “the grizzly bear ate it.”
Tom was hiking in Alaska’s Wrangell-St. Elias National Park when he decided to bury a cache of clothing; camera lens; and the Brooks Memorial Library book he was reading. The book, True Story, by Michael Finkel was stored in a “dry bag” to protect it from the elements.

Several days later Clynes went back to site to retrieve his possessions when he discovered a grizzly bear had unearthed everything and ripped the book to shreds. The book was the only item molested by the bear…and to think some book critics can be harsh!

The cover of the book was gnawed by the grizzly and marks are apparent. Every page was ripped from the spine, however, no pages were eaten. My staff surmises that, perhaps, the book being from the library, might have had some animal scent left over from a previous borrower. Clynes does not own any animals.

True Story:Murder,Memoir, Mea Culpa by Michael Finkel--a popular title at the library-- is a “a spellbinding tale of murder, love, and deceit with a deeply personal inquiry into the slippery nature of truth.”

Clynes paid for the damaged book and is sending the remains to Finkel whom he knows.
