Books on China

This week we are in Denver visiting family and friends. I paid my customary visit to my favorite independent bookstore--The Tattered Cover and bought two helpful books on China. Not wanting exactly a travel guide I discovered a book by Odyssey Publishing entitled, Beijing and Shanghai: China's Hottest Cities. Looks to be interesting because it focuses on the two cities we will be visiting and is written by two Western residents of these cities. The other book is for a crash course on Chinese modern history, The Idiot's Guide to Modern China. These two titles should help provide both background and current information on what we might expect. I also found two photo-journalistic books on China that I will be requesting on interlibrary loan when I return to Brattleboro. More later..

Musings from Vermont

A beginner's blog from a librarian who lives in Vermont. I am new to this technology so am just testing it out right now. My intention is to bring this to life in November 2005 when my wife and I go to China for 10 days.

I plan to make this a professional vacation, visiting book stores, libraries, and just trying to get a feel for the cultural context of libraries in a society where the free flow of ideas is still a very threatening thing.

That's all for now. If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear from you.
